ladylostrisThis is me, procrastinating.
What I need to be doing right now is preparing and sending out job-inquiry emails. What I'm doing right now is basically anything but.
I think at least I've finally worked out what I'm going to say in these emails (which in many cases will be sent to people who, as far as I know, are not (yet) actively recruiting. I need some sort of job leads though, and this will hopefully help me get them.
I picked up a book at the SAAs called Digging Through the Bible: Modern Archaeology and the Ancient Bible, and while it's not quite what I expected it to be, it still is quite interesting, with quite a bit of religious historical information. I came across a passage in this book that describes, in part, why I find archaeology so fascinating:
"...it symbolized something that was far more important and powerful that only archaeology can do. It can create a tangible connection between a literary text and an entire historical tradition."
My area of expertise (if you can call it that) is more the prehistoric end of things, so there are no texts, literary or otherwise, that I work with, but it's still the same general concept: a tangible connection between the distant past and right here right now.
There's also a really interesting discussion of the name Moses, but I'll spare you from that right now.
In a note related to neither jobs nor archaeology, does anyone know of an online radio service that includes more genres than Yahoo radio? I cannot get last.fm to work on this computer, which is really annoying. I want to listen to more than just the most popular genres of music.
